Medical Plan

While a pandemic has the potential to create
widespread problems and disruptions in many
areas of our lives, it is, at its core, a personal
medical issue. Those who contract the influenza
virus will expect the medical community to
address it as a personal medical issue.
Particularly in the United States, Canada, and the
U.K. where leading-edge medical care is available
every minute of every day, there is an
expectation by many of those ill with cases of
seasonal flu that a trip to the family physician will
bring some relief.

As a pandemic unfolds and an increasing number
of fatalities are reported, a greater sense of
urgency (and demand for a vaccine), will be
voiced by the public. People who might otherwise
put up with a case of seasonal influenza and suffer
through it until it has run its course will head to
the doctors office when the perceived risk of not
seeking early treatment may be their personal
demise. Frequent, emphatic public education
messages clearly stating that there will be no
vaccine during the first wave will not dissuade
many people from looking for a miracle cure from
their personal physicians when they believe that
they are infected with the deadly virus.
