Occupational Health

Exposure of employees to people with a
contagious disease (in this case, influenza) in the
course of their employment places the issue of
infection control on a new level for the employer
even if the exposures are limited. Illnesses
contracted by employees as a direct and
proximate cause of the requirements of their job
duties may place a burden on some employers
not shared by others whose employees might
happen to come in contact with an infected person
infrequently or unrelated to their specific job
functions.

Some of these burdens have legal implications
such as on-the-job injury claims that should be
considered before they are experienced by your
organization. The scope of this section is intended
to assist the organization in adopting measures to
prevent such eventualities from occurring in the
first place and in the development of policies that
address the occupational health concerns of the
employees.
