Pandemic Phases and Stages

Pandemic Period

Phase 6. Pandemic phase: increased and
sustained transmission in the general population.

The declaration by the World Health Organization
that Phase 6 has been realized somewhere in the
world signals a point when all of the planning and
testing activities should already have taken place.
In the real world, this will not universally be the
case. Many businesses, local governments, and
even some national governments will have done
little or nothing to prepare for a pandemic.

This is when the execution of your completed
“Pandemic Influenza Plan” should be fully under
way. The public should be keenly aware of the
steps to be taken to minimize the spread of the
disease. Your employees should be fully aware of
their roles in executing or following the plan in
addition to their social responsibilities for
minimizing infection risks.
